The Ridge View girls basketball team is hoping to enjoy some of the success they experienced last season. Last year’s Raptor squad finished 19-5, including an 8-1 record in the Western Valley Conference, winning the conference tournament, and an appearance in the Regional Finals.
It wasn’t easy, but the Ridge View volleyball squad came up with another tournament sweep, this time defeating South Central Calhoun 26-24, 25-19, 25-21. With the victory, the Raptors advanced to play Hinton in a regional final for a trip to the state volleyball tournament.
The Ridge View volleyball squad swept East Sac in their playoff opener at Holstein on Thursday night. The Raptors had their hands full as the Raiders kept each game close, but Ridge View ultimately came away with the victory, 25-19, 25-23, and 25-19. The Raptors advanced to take on South Central Calhoun on Monday night in Holstein. The Ridge View offensive attack was led by Rowan Jensen with an impressive 17 kills. Taya Phillips had seven kills, while Madison Stowater added six. Phillips also led the team in assists with a whopping 25.
The Holstein golf course was the site for the Class 1A state qualifying meet on Thursday. The Ridge View boys and girls team took part in the event. In the girls race, Jaycie Vohs posted a time of 21:05.11, good enough for eight place out of 79 runners, and a return trip to the state cross country meet. Jaycie will compete at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge on Friday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. Addy Tesch captured 13th place with a time of 21:55.85, while Madison Stowater finished in the top 25 with a time of 22:49.29.
The Ridge View football squad saw its season come to an end on Friday night, dropping a 54-12 decision to South Hamilton of Jewell in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs. Ridge View came into the game with a record of 4-4, while South Hamilton sported a 7-1 mark. The Hawks got off to a fast start, returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown and an 8-0 lead. The Raptors would answer, forcing a fumble and eventually scoring on a 17-yard pass from Jake Breyfogle to Caden Biede to cut the lead to 8-6 after one quarter.
The Ridge View football squad finished the regular season on a high note, soundly defeating Sibley-Ocheyedan 28-7 on a cool Friday night in Holstein. The Raptors evened their season record at 4-4, and will carry some momentum into this Friday’s Class 1A matchup at South Hamilton of Jewell, who sports a 7-1 record.
The Ridge View volleyball team swept yet another opponent on Thursday night, as the Raptors defeated Siouxland Christian 25-11, 25-13, and 25-16. Rowan Jensen and Jaycie Vohs led the attack at the net, as both girls had 11 kills. Kiara Dutler contributed seven kills, while Madison Stowater and Sydney Blackmore both had five. Taya Phillips led the Raptors in assists with 12, while Beth Mentzer also reached double figures in assists with 10. Lilly Whitmer distributed seven assists on the night. Shae Dutler once again led Ridge View in digs with 16, while Mentzer contributed six digs.
The Ridge View cross country teams were well represented at the Western Valley Conference meet in Mapleton on Saturday. The Ridge View girls claimed three of the top six places, as Jaycie Vohs, Addy Tesch, and Madison Stowater placed fourth, fifth and sixth respectively. Vohs finished with a time of 21:13.11, while Tesch and Stowater turned in times of 22:15.65 and 22:35.91. Xaria Rojas completed the course in 25 minutes flat, while Molly Reiss was close behind with a time of 25:59.95.
The Ridge View boys and girls cross country squads took part in the South Central Calhoun Invite in Lake City last Tuesday. In the girls race, Jaycie Vohs finished 11th out of 75 runners with a time of 21:21.94. Addison Tesch finished in the top 20 with a time of 22:47.43. Madison Stowater finished in the top 30, completing the course in a time of 24:27.49. Molly Reiss turned in a time of 27:21.93, while Xaria Rojas was close behind with a time of 27:42.97. Kinzie Hagen contributed a time of 29:10.91, while Tess Pacza crossed the finish line in 32:08.59.
The Ridge View football squad ran into a tough defense on Friday night at Emmetsburg, as the E-Hawks topped the Raptors 27-0. Emmetsburg scored on the first Ridge View possession, as a defender intercepted a pass and returned the ball to the end zone for a pick six and a 7-0 lead. The E-Hawks scored on a touchdown run in the second quarter to increase the lead to 14-0 at halftime. Emmetsburg scored again in the third quarter to make the margin 21-0 after three periods of play. A touchdown in the fourth quarter brought the final score to 27-0.
