The Ridge View Prom is the place to be for Ridge View High students in their beautiful gowns and suits on April 22, starting at 6 p.m. This year's theme is “Under the Stars.” The Grand March will be at the High School in the South Gym. At 7:15 p.m., students will convene to Dinner at Cobblestone Inn and Suites in Holstein. After dinner, they will make their way back to the High School for After Prom activities.
The Galva-Holstein Board of Education met in joint session with the Schaller-Crestland Board of Education on Monday, April 10 in the Schaller Media Center. Board members in attendance were Grant Aschinger, Tyler Gebers, Don Kalin, Jamie Whitmer, Matthew Wittrock and Jeff Witzke, as well as Superintendent Bisenius.
Lisa Hinrickson, activity director at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Holstein, has done this type of work since she was twenty. She is now 54 years old and never realized when she started it would be a life-long career. There is a large span of age groups that live there, so Hinrickson has to find activities that they all will enjoy. There is a large group of 50-year-olds that Hinrickson likes talking to them about the 80’s. The biggest thing is Bingo, but they also do manicures, air hockey, balloon bowling and working in the garden. They like to play Hangman with Hinrickson.
The 13th Annual Ridge View FFA Banquet on April 1 was a well-organized top-notch event. A seamless ceremony followed the banquet, which showed some great future leaders. As explained in the program handed out for the evening, the FFA vision is this: FFA provides the next generation of leaders who will change the world. Also stated is the FFA Mission: FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
The Holstein City Council met on April 3, with council members Regennitter, Schimmer, Stevenson, Wiese, and Voss in attendance, as well as Mayor Breyfogle. Director Niemeier updated the Council on public works. There have been two water main leaks the last few weeks that needed to be repaired. Visi-Sewer cleaned and televised sewer mains and checked for needed grouting or repair. Niemeier also reported that they have started doing spring work along with running the street sweeper.
The newly formed Holstein Betterment Alliance (HBA) has been meeting weekly for several months, focused on improving the downtown area of Holstein. The HBA operates under the umbrella of the Holstein Development Authority, a 501c3 organization. Their first project is an ambitious and exciting one that will develop the open area north of the Veterans Memorial Hall at the corner of Main and 1st Street.
Letters From Home/50 states tour, won the hearts of many on Tuesday night, March 28. Erinn Dearth and Dan Beckmann touched hearts with laughter and tears as they sang and danced through the war eras. They honored veterans in the audience with hugs and handshakes during one performance. Yet, other performances throughout the event involved the audience. One man was smacked with kisses from Erinn Dearth’s bright red lips leaving imprints of her lips all over his face. Another performance had audience members in a pretend car honking and laughing with their black hats on.
Brothers A.J. and Brandon Stevenson, now in their 10th year in business as owners of Stevenson Hardware in Holstein, have a wide variety of goods and services to provide area residents. Hardware was even a part of their upbringing.
“When we were growing up,” said A.J., “our grandpa owned a hardware store in Quimby, so we spent a lot of time there.”
Stevenson shared how the brothers came to own the hardware store in Holstein.
Holstein: On April 2 at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home, they will be serving hot dogs, chips and pop (Free will donation). The Easter bunny will arrive. Photos at noon. Egg Hunt at 1 p.m. Three age groups- 03, 4-6, 7-10. One Golden egg for each age group to win a bike. One silver egg for each age group to win movie passes.
Galva: On April 8, the Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10 a.m. at the Galva City Park. The Easter Bunny will arrive after the hunt and will be available for pictures.
