With school back in session, some of the new staff in Ridge View’s Galva-Holstein district elementary have agreed to a Q&A session to introduce themselves to the surrounding community.

While some construction plans in Ida County have had snags finding bidders, the Ida County Historical Society’s plan for restoration work on the Moorehead House Museum in Ida Grove have found a taker. They discussed a bid and cost estimate during their regular meeting Aug. 25. The historical society plans on doing exterior work to upkeep the old Moorehead house, primarily focused on repainting. The contractor who has offered to do the work gave a cost estimate of $12,575.
Ridge View is preparing for what the new school year will bring, and part of those preparations includes getting new teachers settled. Some of the fresh faces in the Galva-Holstein district agreed to a Q&A session to introduce themselves to the surrounding community.

Jess will teach Physical Science (General Science, Chemistry, Physics) at the high school. A Le Mars native, she went to college at the University of South Dakota and finished her degree at Lancaster Bible College.

Officials from each Ida County town gathered in Arthur Aug. 16 to go over their monthly public safety updates. Meetings held on Tuesday were for the Ida County E9-1-1 Service Board, Ida County Emergency Management Commission and Ida County Public Safety and Communications Commission.
The next meeting for all three boards will be Sept. 20 in Battle Creek.
Jolen Riessen and her sons were honored Tuesday, Aug. 9 with the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award. Presenting the award to them at Holstein’s Cobblestone Inn & Suites was Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.
During their regular meeting Aug. 8, the Ridge View school board prepared not just for the challenges facing them in the upcoming school year, but exciting new opportunities as well.
At the high school, the district has hired four new teachers for math, science, band and agriculture, as well as a proctor for Spanish classes. They will hold an open house Aug. 22, during which time the principal will give an informational presentation for parents, and students will learn how to access online learning resources ahead of the school year’s start Aug. 24.
As the implementation of renovations for the Ida County Courthouse inch nearer, the Ida County Board of Supervisors has approved the architectural plans for the expected addition. They discussed this and other county business during their regular meeting Aug. 9.
The board voiced concern about the upcoming bid after the Ida Grove City Council recently reported not receiving any bids for their planned rebuild of city hall, but concluded that would only be something to face after bidding. A pre-bid meeting had been planned for the following afternoon, and bids open Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.
During their regular meeting Aug. 8, the Galva City Council approved a plan to help citizens in need afford water. The Low-Income Home Water Assistance Program was proposed by Mid Sioux Opportunity and would work similarly to their Heating Assistance Program, where qualified citizens will receive state funds to pay their water bill. The program will be in effect from October 2022 through September 2023. Information on who is eligible for the program and how to sign up will be posted at city hall.
