Kansas Petersen, 17, of Ida Grove is the daughter of Saffire Petersen and is the yearbook editor and has served as track manager as well as previously with KEY Club.
She has been recognized as youth session member her freshman and sophomore years, and her hobbies include photography, reading, spending time with friends and family and spending time with animals.
Petersen plans to attend college with possible majors in Early Education or Political Science.
This year’s Ida County Fair will kick off July 19 and run through July 24.
The horseshow is in store for opening day at 5:30 p.m. at the grandstand with Wednesday seeing the start of open class judging at 8 a.m. with the Clover Kids Pet Show at noon and the 4-H Dog & Pet Show at 12:30 p.m.

A change to Iowa redemption law is already set to impact Ida County and much of the state as well. With a new bottle and can redemption law taking effect over the weekend, many businesses that had accepted drink containers for redemption will no longer be required to take those containers.
Under the new law, businesses making ready-to-eat food are among those exempt from having to accept containers, a change from the previous law.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on Tuesday, June 28 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse. Board members in attendance were Chair Raymond Drey, Creston Schubert, and Rhett Leonard. County Engineer Jeff Williams was present to discuss equipment and construction projects. The board authorized the Chair to sign the Fiscal Year 2023 Engineer Contract in the amount of $131,953. Ed Sohm, Sanitarian, and Zach Hall, Conservation Director, discussed hiring an employee with two-thirds Conservation and one-third Sanitarian for water sampling.
