Tammy Neubauer of Ida County was inducted into the 2023 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair on Sunday, Aug. 20. Ninety-one Iowa counties participated this year and selected 127 inductees for their outstanding service and dedication to 4-H. Inductees or their surviving family members were presented a certificate by the Iowa 4-H Foundation President, David Bolte, and Interim State 4-H Program Leader, Mitchell Hoyer, as they were introduced on stage.
Barbie Bash spreads loads of pink on the street of Holstein on Aug. 18 near rehabd. and CornerHaus101. They had a Barbie-style pink fainting sofa on the street in front of rehabd. Amy Conover, owner of rehabd. had an adult sized barbie case in which you could get your picture as a real life Barbie. She also had sales on her clothing line. Alyssa Dreeszen, owner of CornerHaus101 had special drinks available for the night. You could BYOB-Bring your own Barbie in for a discount. This all happened before the movie Barbie that was showing at the State Theatre.
Brenda Naberhaus, Director of the Galva Public Library, enjoys helping people find something that interests them. Naberhaus described some of the items and services available at the library.
“We have the usual fiction and nonfiction books,” she stated. “We have quite a diverse selection of DVDs. I’ve been told ours is one of the best in the area, bigger than they’ve seen anywhere. We have children's books, the local newspapers, magazines that can be checked out, and public computers to use. We can do copies and faxes, and we have a meeting room you can rent.”
Ida County Sanitation and Holstein Sanitation, owned and operated by Justin and Val Georg, and Billy and Laura Carnine, have been serving the area for almost 50 years. The group also runs Precision Towing out of Ida Grove. Justin explained what services the businesses provide.
“We do heavy duty towing and recovery,” he stated, “equipment hauling, light duty towing, lock out, jump starts, rotator tow truck lifting/rigging, commercial, residential, and farm garbage services, and roll off garbage container services.”
Get ‘No Limits’ Internet from an Everly based company who has been serving rural Iowa since 1905. Evertek serves Everly customers (both town and rural) with Fiber Internet, TV and phone. And they serve more than 20 counties in northwest Iowa with Wireless Internet and related services.
Evertek served the public with an open house at Cobblestone in Holstein on Aug. 17. Their employees were right there to inform the public of Evertek’s fiber internet services. Also, a free meal was served consisting of a Hamburger, baked beans, potato salad, and tea and lemonade to drink.
Building a new park: Workers from McCormick Lawncare & Landscaping in Alta are laying the foundation for a new Community Park at the corner of Main and 1st Street in Holstein. The lot was purchased by the City of Holstein. Plans for the design include an inviting gathering space for visitors and residents. Quyntyn Johnson, is the senior vice president of operations at the Travel Center, which is a franchise of TA. You can see the new signage on the travel center in Holstein. Johnson is originally from Chicago, but they are based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. They have several locations encompassing convenience stories and truck stops. When asked what brought them here, Johnson replied,

In July of 1998, Wade Harriman was appointed Sheriff of Ida County. Now, 25 years later, he is still going strong as the leader of law enforcement in the county. Harriman shared a brief history of how he came to hold Ida County law enforcement’s top position.
Jo Puhrmann, owner of MoJo’s Antique Barn in Cherokee, is living out her dream. She has long had a love of antiques, and now has her own store to buy and sell them, along with other unique items. Puhrmann shared some details about her business.
