The Ridge View baseball team got off to a fast start against South O’Brien last Tuesday, taking a 5-0 lead after two innings and pushing the margin to 7-1 after three innings. The Wolverines clawed their way back into the game, however, scoring six runs in the final three innings to pull within 9-8. That was as close as they could get, however, and the Raptors hung on for the victory. Ridge View was led at the plate by Tyhler Kolpin, who smacked four hits in four at-bats, including a double, and drove in three RBI’s. Cael Myrtue had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two RBI’s.
The Ridge View softball team built a 9-1 lead after three innings and held on for a 10-3 victory over MVAO-COU on Wednesday at Mapleton. The Raptors led 3-1 after one inning, then exploded for six runs in the third inning to pull away for good. Ridge View was led at the plate by Emma Vohs, who blasted three hits, including a triple and a home run. The Raptors also got a home run from Tatum Shepherd, who drove in three RBI’s. Abby Wandrey smacked two hits in the game, while Addison Schmidt and Sky Henkel both hit doubles. Ridge View also got hits from Katie Pickhinke and Beth Mentzer.
Trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning, Ridge View’s Tyhler Kolpin stepped to the plate and delivered a hit, driving in two runs and knotting the score at 2-2. The Raptors added a run in the sixth inning to take the lead, and held on for a 3-2 victory over West Monona last Monday in Holstein. Ridge View was led at the plate by Kolpin, who had two hits and drove in two runs. The Raptors also got hits from Cael Myrtue, Gavin Vohs, and Caden Biede, with Vohs smashing a double. Biede drove in an RBI and scored a run, while Vohs and Gabe Chance also crossed home plate in the victory.
The Ridge View baseball team won a hotly contested matchup last Tuesday in Holstein, holding off a late OABCIG rally to come away with a 7-6 victory. The game was tight throughout, as both teams scored three runs in the first inning and the game was tied at 4-4 after two innings. The Raptors broke through for three runs in the fourth inning to give themselves a 7-4 cushion. That lead held up until the seventh inning, when the Falcons plated two runs to pull within 7-6, but Ridge View was able to get the final out to secure the one run victory.

The Raptors were led at the plate by Addison Schmidt, who belted three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three RBI’s. Katie Pickhinke smacked two hits, including a single and a triple, and batted in two RBI’s. Emma Vohs, Sky Henkel, Abby Wandrey, and Beth Mentzer all hit safely for Ridge View, with Henkel smacking a double.
Trailing 7-1 going into the final inning, the Ridge View baseball team put together a furious rally, scoring seven runs to capture an improbable 8-7 victory over Akron-Westfield on Saturday. Tracin Price had two hits for the Raptors, while Cael Myrtue, Caden Biede, Gabe Chance, and Blake Myrtue all collected hits, including two doubles by the Myrtue boys. Blake Myrtue and Caden Biede had two RBI’s, while Cale Myrtue and Gabe Chance both had one RBI. Ridge View had three stolen bases, one each by Price, Biede, and Tyhler Kolpin.
The Ridge View softball team made quick work of Westwood on Wednesday at Sloan. The Raptors jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one inning and extended the margin to 9-1 after two innings. Ridge View scored four more runs in the fourth inning to come away with a 13-1 victory. The Raptors were led at the plate by Abby Wandrey, who had two hits including a single and a triple, and drove in five RBI’s. Also smacking two hits for Ridge View were Shae Dutler, Tatum Shepherd, Addison Schmidt, Katie Pickhinke, and Faith Freese. Beth Mentzer added a single to the hit parade.
Coach Eric Myrtue and the Ridge View baseball squad are excited to begin the 2022 season. Top returning starters for the Raptors are seniors Tyhler Kolpin and Cameron Spina, as well as juniors Cael Myrtue, Tracin Price, and Caden Biede.
“This is a solid core that we will have to lean on if we are going to be successful,” said Coach Myrtue. “Our top two hitters from last year are returning in Cael Myrtue and Tyhler Kolpin. Four of the five will contribute on the mound. All but Spina will see significant time on the bump.”
The Ridge View girls softball team opened their season on a high note Wednesday, defeating Cherokee 13-3 on a cool, rainy night in Galva. The contest was called after five innings due to the ten-run rule. The Raptors took a 5-1 lead after two innings, then outscored the Braves 7-1 in the fourth inning to really break the game open. Winning pitcher Addison Schmidt struck out six batters, and helped her own cause at the plate by smacking four hits, including two doubles, and batting in six RBIs. Emma Vohs also collected four hits including two doubles, and scored four runs.
The Ridge View baseball team used an eight-run third inning to build an 8-3 lead against Cherokee on Wednesday, but the Braves clawed their way back to squeak out a 10-9 victory. Caden Biede and Cael Myrtue both pitched for Ridge View. Tyhler Kolpin smacked two hits and drove in two RBIs, while scoring two runs himself. Tracin Price, Caden Biede, Gavin Vohs, and Blake Myrtue all collected hits for the Raptors.
