A Battle Creek business is on the front lines of some key issues facing both Iowa and the rest of the country.
Bitterly Cold temperatures helped to make a point more eloquently than words as Johnson Propane Heating and Cooling hosted a Congressional visitor with Rep. Randy Feenstra stopping in on one of the coldest days of the year.
With the mercury (and wind chill) hovering around 20 below, the cold (and keeping warm) were one everyone’s minds.
Fortunately, the Battle Creek business was the right place to go.
District Large Group Speech went well for Ridge View and OABCIG students with a total of eight varsity teams earning a Division I rating to advance to State.
Denison hosted this year’s District Large Group Speech.
Ridge View had five teams and OABCIG had four tearms earning a Division I rating.
That earned students a chance to head to State, which is set for Saturday, Feb. 5 in Spencer.
An effort begun during lockdown to aid small meat-processing facilities has earned a Holstein business a state award of $50,000.
The award is under the aegis of the Butchery Innovation and Revitalization Fund, an effort to provide financial support for small-scale meat industry businesses.
Meat processing facilities and locker services as well as mobile slaughter units are the intended recipients for the program, which came about after Iowa’s meat industry suffered severe strain during 2020 as the supply chain came close to breaking for Iowa’s farming sector.
Despite winter’s chill, things are going to start heating up soon in terms of election season as eyes turn toward what could be some important choices for voters.
Ida County voters will have to bid farewell to Supervisor Rhett Leonard (District 3) as he has announced he will not seek reelection.
According to information provided by the Ida County Auditor’s Office, redistricting has shifted District 3 to include the entire City of Ida Grove as well as all of Corwin Township plus part of Grant Township with sections 1 to 6 including electors living north of 290th Street.
The Holstein Chamber’s January meeting was called to order by President Karla Meier. Eight members were in attendance, while two members attended via text. Stamps and envelopes were purchased for the membership committee. A check was given to the IRS for the 501c6 application.
The Ida County Cattlemen and Ida County Pork Producers held their joint banquet on January 8 at Veterans Memorial Hall in Holstein. Backdraft Bar and Grill of Holstein catered the meal and Tiefenthaler Quality Meats of Holstein provided hors d’ oeuvres. FFA members from Ridge View and OABCIG helped serve the meal. A full house enjoyed the banquet, entertainment, and socializing.
Roger Bauman, president of the pork producers, gave the welcome and he also presented information and support for the Ag in the Classroom program sponsored by both county commodity groups.
Cherokee Regional Medical Center has announced that family practice physician Dr. Shelby Wigginton has joined the medical staff and will begin seeing patients at Cherokee Medical Clinic starting Thursday.
The Ida County Board of Supervisors met on January 3 at 9 a.m. in the courthouse. In attendance were Chair Raymond Drey, Creston Schubert, and Rhett Leonard. The board approved Drey as 2022 Board Chair and Schubert as Vice Chair. The board approved the mileage rate at 47.5 cents per mile for 2022. The board authorized the Chair to sign Resolution 22-01 Construction Evaluation with regards to the construction of a confinement feeding operation structure. The board approved Resolution 22-02 Utilities mileage and assessed valuation.
