G-H, S-C boards discuss superintendent compensation, adopt school calendar

The Galva-Holstein and Schaller-Crestland School Boards met July 13 for an in-person, joint session for the first time since March. The boards discussed how Superintendent Jon Wiebers’ compensation package was arrived at and adopted the school calendar for the 2020-21 school year.
The two boards held a discussion on how shared Superintendent Wiebers’ contract compensation was handled in June. S-C Board President Christy Horan said she and her board were disappointed by how the G-H board handled the matter and that S-C was made to look bad. Horan said the S-C board was open to more of a salary increase than what was approved by the G-H board.
At its June meeting, the G-H board approved a 1.12 percent increase in compensation (wage, insurance and vehicle expense increase) for Wiebers. The G-H board also approved paying Wiebers for seven days of unused vacation.
