IDA GROVE – Services for Cheryl L. Knudsen, 73, of Ida Grove will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. The Rev. Richard A. Salcido will officiate. Burial will be in Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Monday, July 27, at Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks are encouraged, and social distancing rules apply. Christensen-Van Houten Funeral Home in Ida Grove is in charge of arrangements.
She died July 24, 2020, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Cheryl L. Knudsen, daughter of Lloyd and Lorraine (Schultz) Wessel, was born July 1, 1947, in Denison. She grew up in the rural Crawford and Ida County areas. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1965.
On Sept. 5, 1965, Cheryl married Marelle Knudsen at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. They made their home on the family’s century farm 10 miles southwest of Ida Grove. They were blessed with two children: Michelle and Marc.
Taking an active role on the farm, Cheryl was always involved with all the daily activities and operations of the farm. You may remember Cheryl’s warm smile at the local PAMIDA store, where she worked for 30 years before retiring.
Blessed with a green thumb, Cheryl enjoyed being outside, tending to flowers and landscaping. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren
Cheryl loved shopping, going to country music concerts with Marelle, cooking and baking, and treasured time with her large family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove and taught Sunday school.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marelle Knudsen of Ida Grove; and her children: Michelle (Tom) Clifford of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Marc (Ann) Knudsen of Ida Grove.
Also surviving are five grandchildren: Madison (fiancé Jason Chase) Clifford of Lenexa, Kan.; Michael Clifford of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Miranda (fiancé Tyler Roberts) Knudsen of Lake View; Martin (Rhondee) Knudsen of Schleswig; and Matthew Knudsen of Ida Grove.
Also surviving are her great-grandchildren: Kipp and Granger Knudsen of Schleswig; her brothers: Gene (Myra) Wessel, Gailen (Pam) Wessel and LaWayne (Barb) Wessel, all of Ida Grove; her brother-in-law, Burdelle (Darnelle) Knudsen of Ida Grove; numerous extended family; and friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Lorraine Wessel; her parents-in-law, Marven and Helen Knudsen; and her step-father in-law, LeRoy Schagt.
